Foothills

40cm x 40cm, oil and mixed media on canvas

Part of the Internal Landscapes collection, this work was created during the lockdown period and later exhibited in Marylebone at Timeless Act — a show pairing Molly Gaisford’s abstract paintings with Norman Parkinson’s iconic photography.

The piece is rooted in a visit to the Italian Alps in 2019, when Molly and her son were navigating a time of great personal change. A three-day journey together, driving six hours from the airport into the mountains, became a moment of reconnection and renewal. On their walk to see the Matterhorn, the peak itself was hidden by clouds, yet its foothills revealed enough: a reminder of presence felt even when unseen, and of the quiet wonder in finding each other again.
